Tsomgo Lake ( 36 Km. from Tashi Delek )
In minutes you will climb to an altitude over 10,000 ft. on the ancient eastern caravan route via Nathu La to Lhasa on the Tibetan plateau. The road, with an awesome precipice on one side goes through the Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary home of brilliantly plumaged pheasants. Tsomgo, at 12400 ft., is one of the many jewel like tarns that nestle amidst the high peaks of Sikkim. Worshipped by many and about which legends abound, the lake, is ringed by peaks of granite and ice. In spring, flowers of every hue burst forth in a riot of colour and in winter snow covers all when the lake freezes. Sunsets at this altitude can be simply brilliant. |
